"Wisdom of the Night" Solo Exhibition

South Suburban College is pleased to present new paintings by Nicole Northway

in the Dorthea Giell Gallery.  “Wisdom of the Night” is Northway’s largest solo show to date.  This exhibition will feature paintings exploring mysticism, belief systems, magic, totem animals, and symbology. The show will exhibit several series of paintings made in the past three years, as well as feature a new series of paintings.  Through mixed media, the new works explore the division of art and craft and high art and “naïve” art; forcing them to unite on the canvas. Northway’s paintings explore a variety of magic and religious belief systems.  This is not meant as a mere pastiche citing of visual symbols. These works have become a personal exploration of her own belief systems.  Through meditation, guided shaman journeys, exploration of divination systems, and use of other esoteric forms, Nicole has taken a journey to an otherworldly metal landscape and created this body of work from her visions.  “Wisdom of the Night”
