Nicole Northway is a Chicago-based artist and designer originally from St. Louis. She came to Chicago to earn her MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2008. In 2009, finding a creative way around hard economic times, Nicole taught herself to make jewelry and opened her first Etsy Shop. In 2011, inspired by the creative community of Etsy artists, she opened One Strange Bird to share her passion of handmade art and design.
One Strange Bird is a creative studio in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood that offers art classes and sells indie crafts from around the country. In 2015, Nicole launched her own product line to the wholesale and retail industry. With a focus on bright, bold designs Nicole's illustrations have a wide range of appeal.
Nicole's fine art has been recognized by the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation in the form of two first place awards and she was the recipient of the CAAP grant in 2010. Her work was exhibited at the Thomas McCormick gallery, Contemporary Art Workshop, Hyde Park Art Center, Next Fair at Art Chicago, Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts in St. Louis, and the Sullivan Gallery among other places.
